The Persistence of Memory, or Perpetual Re-Utilization

Listening to a NPR program this afternoon, in which a man was telling a story about a tree that grew in his yard, years ago....When the tree 'got too large', his landlord....concerned about the tree's roots destabilizing the house's foundation....the tree was cut down......the 'tenant' found a seedling from the now defunct tree and planted it.......after the tree was 30 feet tall, again, there were 'issues' and the tree had to be cut down.....   This time, the 'tenant' took one of the  the fallen tree's segments, left on the ground after the arborists left to a woodcrafter who made the wood into a beautiful box, which, now....in itself....not only stored some memorabilia, but was, itself, a nostalgic Memory......Much of the 'clutter' in my home shares its status as Memory triggers.......like this ceramic 'thing' that was: first, a candle stand from a restaurant where I was a young waiter....Sidney's 2nd Act....; then,  it evolved into a stand for a pierced pottery oil lamp; then, a base for a Tibetan orb incense cone burner; and, eventually into a top for opened cat food cans, since it was a perfect fit......Does this make me a 'hoarder' or a 'repurposer'?   Well, I'm not about to toss it to the trashcan!
