PORTRAIT OF 'JUSTIN'

yet another boring, academic study...immolated, before the monsoon, as a protest of 'good enough looking mediocrity'.....that fills most of the Civilized World's billions of walls........Art's oatmeal, white loaf bread and 'drive-through' chow........its ashes may be served in a cake, dumped over the garden wall, or placed in a thrift store sepulture with a note: this box contains the ashes of a portrait of a forgotten art school model who was paid 5 bucks to 'just sit there', changing poses every 8 minutes, for 3 quarters of an hour of wasted time........ and sold at a porch sale for a dollar.........Does anyone remember Justin Satterfield Jr.? probably not....... Yet, if this were a very crappy portrait of a very famous person, done by an 'important' painter.......it might hang in a place of honor.....in an important Museum....as spectators stare, in awe, at it....declaring it a work of Genius!

THE "EASTER STORY" FOR THE 'UNDER 5's'.......

Let's get this straight......It's Easter......So, we steal the mama bunny's unhatched sugar eggs, hoarding as many as we can.....then hide them from one another, in the spirit of Christian generosity....again, hoarding as many as possible in our hands, pockets and woven straw baskets.....to celebrate the betrayal, torture and killing of Mary's illegitimate bastard son by an imaginary God......Have I got this right? Then, we pick out our favorite colors and flavors of these, leaving the licorice and asparagus-flavored ones for 'the others'.......keeping the less-desirable ones, to fuse together into a clump of sucrose pastel gunk to toss to the yard birds, hungry for the sunflower seeds that we forgot to give them....last Easter......Yes...I think I've 'got it'!

IT MUST HAVE BEEN 'FREE', BECAUSE NO ONE....EXCEPTING PARENTS AND RELATIVES......WOULD HAVE ATTENDED THIS 'CONCERT' FOR LOCAL PIANISTS, UNDER 12......

Do I throw 'anything' away?? More Nostalgia....a program from a piano recital given by my 'piano teacher', Miss Buell Davis, when I was in 5th Grade......and, hardly...a prodigy! Today, I think about what Mozart would have 'played' and, likely, 'written', when HE was 9!.....Certainly, not some of this stuff: "Koppy-Kat", "Riding On A Mule", "Frisky Lambs", "The Gay Cavalier" (I wanted that one), My "Performance Piece", that I have no memory of....must have been by a not-so-famous composer, since his name is misspelled in the Program......I drew a map to accompany my performance......which, of course, I have retained for all these years.......
